Once in a lifetime…

Final selects of feature story on Bailey McCarthy's house in Houston, TX for February 2017 publication in House Beautiful.

You may find yourself in a beautiful house…and you may ask yourself, how did I get here?

Our home, House Beautiful February 2017

If you have been reading here for awhile you might have some idea of how much this means to me as I have written extensively about my deep love of House Beautiful– but honestly I didn’t even really know how much this would mean to me.

We shot the story back in October, one year after we moved in- and our October ended up being insane. We got back from Tokyo & Singapore on the 10th (travel guides coming soon!) then a few days later I flew with the kids to Connecticut for the funeral of my dear friends truly wonderful mother, and then to meet Pete in Chicago. We got back on the 17th,  House Beautiful started shooting the 18th– and then after their last shot on the 19th we flew out with the kids to LA for the last games of the NLCS.

It was such a whirlwind, I don’t think I ever took a moment to really process what had happened. When I received my advanced copy of the issue a few days ago I came down with a severe case of the feels. All of the emotions.

I don’t want to share too much at the moment because I hope y’all will pick up the issue and see not only the beautiful work they did on our house, but incredible before & after projects by Nina Farmer, Amanda Lindroth, Wesley Moon, Shon Parker, and Eddie Ross, amongst other fabulous features.

So many thanks to everyone at House Beautiful– every single person I spoke to during the process was a delight and made a thrilling experience feel surprisingly cozy. I am so honored to be in your magazine, and can’t think of a better way to start 2017!

  1. I loved every single element of your home! The House Beautiful spread was amazing and so inspiring. You rock color and pattern like no other! Congrats to the well deserved feature and beautiful home!!

  2. When talented people succeed it’s a win for us all. I’ve been soaking up your creations ever since that Chicago renovation; I get so happy seeing your perspective (on life and designs). The Internet is a funny thing; I feel like we’re friends, but my husband made fun of me when I told him “Bailey is in HB!” He thinks I’m a stalker.

  3. What color did you paint the trim in the master bedroom? It’s beautiful, but I can’t find it anywhere!

  4. Hi Sydney! We don’t actually have a color name because it was custom mixed to match the paper and it was an ordeal. That green changes with the light a lot and some times of the day it would be a perfect match and others the light would shift and they would totally clash. I’m not sure how many tweaks it took to finally get it right- sorry that isn’t very helpful!
